Bow & Arrows & Movies

This weekend, we got a chance to re-polish our archery skill ....

I did much better than last year ... check my scores

3 movies we watched last week were all good:
1. The tales of Despereaux
The story would be too complicated for younger audiences since there are so many different thread of stories - they are all really interesting. Lesson learned: The Power of Forgiveness

2. Frost/Nixon
We thought we would fall asleep since we started to watch this movie at 12 AM - turned out it is an intense movie and well written. Kudos to the screen writer. Lesson learned: Watergate scandal

3. UP 3D
The latest Pixar movie - my hubby really wanted to watch it in 3D. We did not know the story line before going to see it - the beginning was a bit sad but it was an interesting story. Lesson learned: enjoy every moment.

Our next project is to watch "Milk", "Grand torino" and "He is just not that into you" (for the second time).

Memorial Weekend

P, J and me went to Arboretum to take some flower pictures (a chance to learn and use our new cameras more often), here are some of the lovely flowers I took:

I am planning to take more pictures to improve my skill, we'll see if I can keep that promise : )
If I can keep my promise, my hubby promises to get me a micro lens ;) ;)

Inter-Cultural Wedding

From our busy time last week, we were able to squeeze in a time to attend our GT friend's wedding. This was a first experience for me since I have never gone to any US wedding before - I missed my chance last year when my cousin got married in GA.

The wedding took place quite a long distance from Minneapolis, so we had to drive around 2 hours to get there. Then we missed the little gravel road that we were supposed to take, three times.

The place was really cute and romantic - they did a good job mixing both cultures of groom and bride (African (Ivory Coast), Norwegian, and American).

It was a small road trip also for us, so we don't mind driving away from the city to enjoy the country side. : )

Bowling

We went to play bowling last month and the rules were really fun and crazy:

1. For the first round, we used regular bowling rules. (OK that's not the crazy part, hold on a minute...)

2. For the second round, everyone who had more than 120 points on the first round was not allowed to use their dominant hand. So most people had to switch hands and use their left hand, which gave me advantage to win the second round : ) hehehe my first round points were lower than 100.

3. For third round: for each throw we had to follow a different rule example:
- use your weaker hand
- close your eyes (had to cover our face using a jacket)
this one was amazingly hard, because as soon as the jacket goes
over you, you completely lose track of where the bowling lane is,
and so of course you throw way off center
- throw like a grandma (both hands, roll from between the legs)
- use your foot (yup couple people kicked the bowling balls,
not a smart thing to do)
- lay on your tummy and throw (we had to lie down on the floor and throw),
sounds really easy but it was waaaaay harder than you think -- the ball doesn't
go in a straight line of course, so you miss
- spin 3 times (really fast) then throw
- face backwards when throwing
- throw from really far back, without stepping forward
- sit then roll the ball from a sitting position

Some pictures we were able to steal to post:

You guys should try these rules ;)

Atlanta Trip

I haven't forgotten to update the blog, lately work has been crazy and I've never gotten any chance to spare my time to do fun things.

Tonight (May 14th, 2009), we just got back from the St.Paul's Hmong dinner banquet sponsored by my company. My hubby decided to go to play poker with his friends (he had promised them since couple weeks ago), but I am waaaaaaay too lazy, and decided to stay at home and update blogs (so geeky).

So let me give you quick updates:

Atlanta Trip (April 24 - April 30th)
Day 1 (Friday Night): Arrived around 10 PM and went to Ernita's home (my new hotel in Atlanta) then went to eat at Waffle House with Han2, Doan, Jon, Ernita, Merry who just came from Singapore a week prior

Day 2 (Saturday): Visited Russian's family and celebrated little Vasya's 2-month Bday after dropping Merry and Dianna to shop in North Point Mall. Around 6.30 PM went to meet Merry, William and his wife @ Starbuck's. Went back to Ernita's home to have dinner (KFC) with Chris and his girlfriend who both came really late. A really awkward dinner ... the chicken was good though ;)

Day 3 (Sunday): Picked up Dianna then went to Helen for a day trip. We stopped by GA400 Outlet Mall and spent Russian's money to buy Bday gifts for me ;) Thanks Russian!!!!

Day 4 (Monday): Merry and I went to GPC to get Miss Cecile's address before going to pick up Matt and Dianna from the Cheesecake factory. We went to the GA Aquarium and the new Coke Museum. On the way, we dropped by Tin Drum for lunch and ate it near by the Aquarium. Also dropped by GT Barnes&Noble, Merry bought some GT t-shirts. After the Coke museum, we went back to Ernita's home and her mom cooked us some delicious Indonesian food. They also had a Bday surprise for me : )

Day 5 (Tuesday): Dropped Merry @ Perimeter Mall so she could hang out with her friends from Chinese class. I went to have a lunch with Elena. We also dropped by couple places to do errands. I got a chance to hang out with little Vasya alone for 2 hours since Elena had to go somewhere. Vasya was a really good baby, he slept and didn't cry at all - we hanged out on the deck all afternoon enjoying afternoon breeze. I got to blow out a 2nd cake from Vasily's family : )

Went to pick up Merry by DSW perimeter area and we went to Chix wings with Han2, Doan, Jennifer and Fay. I got to pay the dinner finally (really hard to beat Han2). Then we went to Han's apartment and got to chat with Lani.

Day 6 (Wednesday): Merry, Matt and I drove to Nashville, TN, to meet Miss Cecile who used to work as our math lab supervisor when we were TAs in GPC Dunwoody. I drove there and Matt drove back.

Day 7 (Thursday): Chill out time, just went to lunch (Dimsum) with Merry, Dianna, Erni and her mom @ Canton restaurant in Buford Hwy. Then hanged out @ Erni's home and had a dinner in Houston with Dianna, Erni's mom, Jon, Erni, Doan, Han, Merry and Matt.

Day 8 (Friday): Left Erni's home around 9.15 AM to airport (Jon drove us there) and flew to SF with a delayed transit in Phoenix, AZ.

SF Trip (April 30 - May 2)
Day 8 (Friday Night): Got there around 8 PM, checked in to our hotel then went to Japan town to get some dinner.

Day 9 (Saturday): Took a cable car to get to Fisherman's Wharf and walked around there for a while. Ate crab for lunch (my ritual in SF) and took buses to Golden Gate Park and Golden Gate Bridge.

Day 10(Sunday): Made a call to SuperShuttle to pick me up at night and realizing that I booked a wrong ticket - my flight was gone already. The midnight was on the wrong day, I thought it was Sunday's midnight, turned out Saturday's midnight : (

Went to the airport ASAP, and talked to different airlines to get a better price to MN. I called Russian and asked him to book me a ticket online. Got one but was not cheap at all : (

Lesson learned from last month trip: NO MORE BOOKING MIDNIGHT FLIGHTS. Airlines are *NOT* in the business of forgiving people for missing their flights and giving them discounts on other flights that same day. Not at all! : ( Shame on you, Northwest Airlines, shame.
