Today they placed the railing around our porch:
Here's the look of the porch from the side:
I discovered that they've completed the cement walkout in front of the basement door. This might have happened yesterday though, because we didn't walk around the back of the house at that time. Anyway, we just noticed it now, so here it is:
The concrete for the first step up to our porch has dried now, and we totally forgot to imprint our hands or write our initials in a little heart or anything like that. Next time the pour us some steps, we're going into art mode:
Yes, we almost have our last window - they cannot frame the whole window yet. Apparently they use this opening to haul things up into the second floor - e.g. the drywall sheets, which wouldn't fit very well up the stairs. So this plywood is going to be in our window until almost the very last day before the end of construction, apparently:
That's about it for this day. It's getting to be very livable! Sure, no AC yet, but hey, at least it has a roof etc.!
Besides, this summer has been totally mild here in MN. We haven't actually had to use our AC much at all -- maybe twice or three times. We've had maybe 2-3 days over 90'F here. Very cool summer.
Russian worries that we're about to pay for it, big time, with a brutally cold winter to match... we'll see how that works. At least we'll be cozy in our new box. : )
BY THE WAY: We've named our home now, and the name is... [trrrrrrrrrrr (drum roll) trtrtrtrtrtrtttrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRrrR]
UCHI
(pronounced 'oo-chi')
It means "house" in Japanese. I know. So creative, right?! Well in Russian it was 'Domik' and we liked 'Uchi' better, so there it is.
Say bye-bye to Uchi, until tomorrow, kids!
